Adobe Photoshop is the eight hundred pound gorilla in the world of digital imaging. It is the go to program most heavily relied upon work horse for two dimensional graphics. At its first approach, it is very simple to learn. Underneath the hood lies a beast that can be as complex as you need it to be.
I love to teach Photoshop in my class as the first program, because as enrollment fluctuates, in the beginning of the school year, students can easily get caught up on assignments that they have missed due to settling schedules. Maya and Unity lessons all hinge off of one another and build as you get deeper into the interface. So they are programs that I like to present later.
Students love photoshop because of its simplicity and its speed. A person can work on one project in photoshop and it only takes a day to a week. A single character in Maya can take six weeks to six months building, texturing, rigging, animating, and rendering. So commitment in photoshop is much less. I find myself knocking out a quick and fun Photoshop picture for Facebook from time to time and then "Getting back to work" in Maya.
With all of that said lets get involved in some graphics......
Below are some introduction videos that will get you up and running in Photoshop. These will show you the basic layout and the way that we will work in the program.
