Our First Video
In this video you are going to learn about different kinds of ways that we store information in a program.
A variable is the container that we put information into. While we may deal with a ton of different data the types of data that we use can be broken down into 3-4 simple kids
AlphaNumeric Data: This is information/data that is any type of symbol that you can make with your keyboard. It is called AlphaNumeric because it can be Alphabetic or Numeric.
Numeric Data: we have this kind of data because we need to be able to do math with the numbers in the program. only Numeric variables can be used with math funstions.
Special Data: we have a special variable type that stores the simplest information. This information or data is limited to t (for True), f (for False), 1 (for True), or 0 (for False). This variable stores only True or False Information.
Here is a list of the types of variables that we most commonly use. this is not an exhaustive list only the most common.
AlphaNumeric
char - stores a single AlphaNumeric character
string - stores a bunch of AlphaNumeric characters
Numeric
int - stores a really large whole number
long - stores a really really large whole number
float - stores a number with a decimal point
double - stores a much larger number with a decimal point
Special
bool - this variable type stores the simplest data out there; True or False 1 or 0.
